Accounting for service firms

You work on projects, retainers and billable hours, but your bookkeeping does not keep up with how you actually get paid. Service revenue is recognised differently from selling goods, and a deposit received today is not automatically this month's income. We set up your accounting, team payroll and client contracts so you can focus on delivery.

Service firms in Moldova apply the national accounting standard SNC „Venituri” (Revenue), which recognises service revenue as work is performed — using the percentage-of-completion method when a contract spans several periods. The standard corporate income tax rate is 12% and standard VAT is 20%; VAT registration becomes mandatory once turnover exceeds the threshold, raised in 2026. Companies in IT and creative industries may opt for Moldova IT Park resident status, with a single 7% tax on turnover. From 23 August 2026 a new personal data protection law (Law 195/2024), aligned with the GDPR, comes into force.

What we handle and how

Deposits and retainers that are not yet revenue

You collect a retainer at the start of the month or a project deposit, but you do not know how much of it is real income and how much is a liability to the client until you deliver.

We keep service revenue properly under SNC „Venituri”: advances stay as deferred income, and revenue is recognised as services are performed, including the percentage-of-completion method for projects that run over several months. You see clearly what you actually earned in each period.

Accounting

Revenue by client and project, with no clarity on margin

You run dozens of clients and projects in parallel, but you cannot see which ones turn a profit and which just consume hours.

We structure the books by project and by client, tie billable hours to revenue and costs, and produce financial reports that show the real margin on each engagement. Pricing and client-selection decisions rest on numbers, not on intuition.

Accounting

Payroll for the team and project contractors

You have full-time staff, part-timers and project contractors, and calculating wages, withholdings and contributions eats up time every month.

We prepare payroll and calculate withholdings and contributions (income tax, CNAS, CNAM) for employees and contractors, draft employment and service contracts, and file payroll returns on time. For eligible IT companies we also assess the IT Park regime.

Payroll & HR

Client contracts, NDAs and data protection

You work from old contract templates, without clear clauses on confidentiality, intellectual property or processing of client data.

We draft and review service contracts, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) and intellectual-property clauses, and bring you into compliance with the new personal data protection law (Law 195/2024, in force from 23 August 2026, aligned with the GDPR).

Legal services

VAT and the registration threshold

You are growing fast and do not know when you become a VAT payer, or how that affects your prices to clients and your supplier relationships.

We track turnover against the VAT registration threshold, apply VAT correctly to services in the monthly returns, and register you on time, with no penalties for missing the deadline.

Accounting

Tax planning and choosing the right regime

You are not sure whether your current legal form and tax regime are the right fit for a growing service firm.

We review your revenue and team structure and compare the applicable regimes (12% corporate income tax, eligibility for the IT Park with its single 7% tax), so you can choose the legal option with the lowest total cost, with no risky schemes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does accounting cost for a service firm?

It depends on the number of clients and projects, the size of the payroll team, and your VAT status. For a small firm with a few employees the cost is modest; it grows as payroll runs and transactions increase. We give you a fixed monthly price after a free consultation, with no hidden costs.

How do I switch from my current accountant to you?

We take over the books from your trial balances and filed returns, verify client and employee balances, and sync with current tax deadlines. We coordinate the whole process, and you lose neither a day nor a single reporting deadline.

How do you recognise revenue for projects that run over several months?

Under SNC „Venituri”, for contracts that span several periods we use the percentage-of-completion method: we recognise revenue as services are actually performed, not on receipt of payment. Unused deposits and retainers stay as deferred income until delivery.

Do you also handle payroll for project contractors?

Yes. We prepare payroll for employees and calculate withholdings for contractors on service agreements, including income tax and CNAS and CNAM contributions, and draft the related contracts. We file payroll returns on time.

Can we benefit from the IT Park regime?

If at least 70% of your revenue comes from IT activities, creative industries or research and development, the company can become an IT Park resident and pay a single 7% tax on turnover, which replaces several taxes and contributions. We check eligibility and handle the reporting.

Do you help with contracts and protecting client data?

Yes. We draft and review service contracts, NDAs and intellectual-property clauses, and bring you into compliance with the new personal data protection law (in force from 23 August 2026, aligned with the GDPR).
